You are a young woman who has a strange dream the night before going to meet old college friends at an izekaya bar, of the same bar apparently being taken by a group of samurai in the dead of night. The following evening, after running into one of your college friends Kyo Shinomiya outside of the izekaya, a strange dizziness overtakes you both as you collapse into darkness.

Waking up on the back of a young man named Kogoro Katsura, you realize your surroundings look a little different: all of the hustle and bustle of modern Japan has been seemingly replaced by the set of a Jidaigeki film. It’s not until you arrive at the kimono shop of Yukio Shinonome that you realize you have actually somehow traveled back in time to the Bakumatsu period (roughly 1864) and are now living in the civil war turmoil of Japan just on the cusp of the Meiji Restoration. Finding the reason why you traveled back in time and how to get back home proves even more difficult than planned, however, and you soon have to decide between finding your way back to your home time period or staying in your new life in 19th century Japan.
